λ A superb miniature Italian Grand Tour fan, with carved and pierced ivory guards and sticks, the guards each carved with figure and backed in gold, the sticks carved with a central figural cartouche. The double leaf painted recto with a superb miniature view of the bay of Naples with Vesuvius smoking in the background, to the fore are ships and figures with the city beyond. The verso similarly painted with a view of Vesuvius erupting by night. In contemporary box. Circa 1800. Length 17cm.
